New York (Web Desk): The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday condemned in the strongest terms the recent deadly attacks that struck multiple locations in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, calling for swift action to bring those responsible to justice.
In a statement issued from its New York headquarters, the 15-member Council reported that the attacks resulted in the tragic deaths of 48 people, including 31 civilians, among them five women and three children. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for these acts, which the Council described as “heinous and cowardly.”
The statement, delivered by the United Kingdom’s Charge d’affaires James Kariuki, the current president of the Council, expressed profound sympathy to the families of the victims and to the people and Government of Pakistan. It also extended wishes for a rapid and complete recovery for those who were injured
Highlighting that terrorism in all its forms poses one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, the Council emphasized the need to hold accountable everyone involved—including perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and supporters of the attacks. It urged all countries to cooperate with Pakistan, in accordance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to ensure justice is served.
The Council reiterated that no act of terrorism is justifiable, regardless of the motivation, location, or timing.
It also underlined the responsibility of all states to combat terrorism through every legal and international means available, consistent with the UN Charter and obligations under international human rights, refugee, and humanitarian law.
