Wazirabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and other leaders of the party, including Senator Faisal Javed Khan, were injured in firing when unidentified assailant opened fire on PTI chief’s container during long march near the Allah Ho Chowk in Wazirabad.
According to reports, firing was made near the container when PTI leaders, including Imran Khan, were present on its roof.
As per the rescue sources, at least eight people sustained injuries.
Following the incident, the PTI chairman has been shifted to a hospital.
Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has taken notice of the attack on PTI Chairperson Imran Khan's container and instructed the province's top cop to submit a report after investigation.
The Punjab CM said that those "behind the incident will be brought to justice".
He also instructed local authorities to provide the best possible medical care to the injured.
Meanwhile, police arrested two suspects from the scene and shifted them to undisclosed located for interrogation.
PM Shehbaz condemns attack on Imran Khan
Taking notice of the attack, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the incident.
He instructed Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to get an immediate report from the chief secretary of Punjab and Inspector General of Police (IGP).
On the other hand, key suspect arrested by police said that he wanted to kill PTI Chairman Imran Khan because “he was misleading the public.”
In a video statement, the suspect said that Imran Khan was misleading the people.
"I could not bear watching it so I attempted to kill him,” the suspect said.
"I tried my best to kill him. I wanted to kill Imran Khan only and no one else."
The suspect said that he was planning the assassination attempt ever since Imran left Lahore.
When asked if he had any accomplices, he replied in the negative. “There is no one else with me. I am alone.”
