New York (Web Desk): A high-level Pakistani parliamentary delegation, led by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, met members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the United Nations (UN), briefing them on recent developments in South Asia in the wake of India’s military actions and accusations against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack.
According to a press release issued by Pakistan’s Mission to the UN, Bilawal strongly rejected India’s attempt to associate Pakistan with the Pahalgam incident, emphasizing that the allegations lacked any credible investigation or supporting evidence.
Addressing the OIC Permanent Representatives, Bilawal pointed out that the swift and unfounded attribution of blame to Pakistan had been used by India as a pretext for conducting unlawful military operations, including cross-border strikes.
These strikes, he said, had targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure, further escalating tensions in the region.
The PPP chairman expressed deep concern over India's unilateral suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a blatant act of weaponizing water and a serious violation of both international law and existing treaty obligations.
He warned that Pakistan could not allow such actions to become a precedent or new normal in regional relations.
Bilawal stressed that India’s aggressive posture had made the world a less secure place, with immediate and dangerous implications for peace and stability in South Asia.
He extended appreciation to the OIC countries for their ongoing efforts to promote de-escalation, mediation, and ceasefire, and reiterated that the only viable path to lasting peace lies in dialogue, engagement, and diplomacy.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful resolution and diplomatic engagement, he called for the immediate restoration of the Indus Waters Treaty, respect for the ceasefire agreement, and the resumption of comprehensive bilateral dialogue with India, with the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute at its core.
He commended the OIC for standing as the moral conscience of the international community during these difficult times and expressed gratitude to member states for their consistent support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Bilawal reiterated that the Kashmir dispute remains central to achieving durable peace in the region and called on the OIC to maintain its principled support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, as enshrined in United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Following the briefing, the Permanent Representatives of OIC countries expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s transparent and timely presentation.
They reaffirmed their solidarity with Pakistan and the people of Jammu and Kashmir, voicing concern over the deteriorating security situation in South Asia.
The representatives underscored the importance of adhering to the principles of the UN Charter and international law, including respect for treaties like the Indus Waters Treaty.
The OIC states welcomed Pakistan’s continued commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred route for resolving all outstanding disputes, especially the Jammu and Kashmir issue, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
