Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday instructed the relevant authorities to take decisive action against the individuals responsible for the violent protests that led to the deaths and injuries of law enforcement officers, as well as the destruction of public property during the November 24 sit-ins in Islamabad.
Chairing a meeting of the task force set up to investigate the November 24 riots, the premier emphasised that the legal proceedings against those involved in the riots would be reviewed on a weekly basis.
The prime minister expressed disappointment over the insurgent attack on Islamabad, which took place during the official visit of the Belarusian president, causing significant embarrassment for the country.
The prime minister said that a world-class anti-riot force would be established to address the evolving needs of law enforcement in the country.
He outlined plans to enhance the Islamabad Safe City project to international standards, supported by the establishment of a forensic lab and the provision of the necessary resources to upgrade the system.
The meeting was informed that forensic evidence, such as weapons, shells, and other materials recovered from the crime scene, would be sent for analysis. Efforts to identify the rioters were proceeding swiftly, with plans to bring them before the courts in the near future.
The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarra, Advisor to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah, and other senior officials.
