Lahore (Staff Report): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday stayed the demolition of the boundary walls of the Punjab Governor House.

“Not even a brick should remove from its place,” Justice Mamoonur Rashid issued order while hearing petitions filed against orders passed by Prime Minister Imran Khan to tear down the walls of the governor house. The court also warned of strict action on razing the wall.

On Sunday, the Punjab government started work to demolish the outer wall of the House to offer a clear view of the majestic colonial-era building to the public from The Mall.

The demolition was started a day after the PM had ordered bulldozing the boundary walls of the public office to convert it into a public park.

The PTI government had earlier promised to turn several state buildings, including governor houses, into educational institutions, parks, hotels and museums.

Punjab Governor House, which covers around 700 kanals area, will be converted into a public park while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor House into a women’s park and a museum.

The Governor House at Nathiya Gali will become a hotel, while Balochistan Governor House will be converted into a park.
