Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed that the progress of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and the welfare of its residents remain among the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) top priorities.
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday, Shehbaz Sharif congratulated PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the party’s victorious candidates for emerging ahead in the second phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections.
He credited the party’s strong electoral performance to the successful campaign led by Nawaz Sharif across the region.
The prime minister also welcomed the enthusiastic participation of political parties in the second phase of the elections, saying their involvement had reinforced the democratic process in AJK.
He further said that the PML-N’s electoral victory reflects the confidence and trust the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir have placed in the party’s policies and leadership.
The PML-N took the lead in the second phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections on Sunday, winning 14 of the 19 seats contested, according to unofficial and provisional results.
The second round of voting was conducted across 19 of the 21 constituencies, covering seven constituencies in the Muzaffarabad Division and 12 seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees living in Pakistan.
As per the unofficial results, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured five seats.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah has claimed that the PML-N has secured a simple majority to form government in AJK after securing victories in 13 of the 20 seats contested so far.
