New York (Web Desk): Pakistan has reiterated its determination to continue playing its constructive role toward peace by encouraging dialogue, promoting mutual understanding, and supporting every initiative that seeks to ensure lasting stability in the region.
These views were expressed by Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), while addressing a meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on cooperation between the UN and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
During his remarks, the ambassador pointed to the increasingly alarming situation in the region, noting that the launch of attacks against Iran has intensified tensions and created a highly volatile environment.
He cautioned that such actions are eroding regional stability and could have far-reaching consequences for international peace, security, and even the global economy.
Asim Iftikhar firmly denounced all forms of violence directed at civilians and civilian facilities, stressing that strikes on critical infrastructure such as power stations, energy sites, educational institutions, hospitals, and other essential services are unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.
He emphasized that the urgent need of the hour is de-escalation and a complete halt to hostilities.
The Pakistani envoy also condemned the continued attacks on friendly Gulf nations, stating that targeting civilians and key infrastructure in these countries is entirely unjustifiable. (GCC).
He commended the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council for showing restraint despite facing provocation and aggression.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, he expressed full support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of all GCC countries.
“At this critical juncture, restraint, diplomacy and dialogue must prevail,” Asim Iftikhar said, adding that Pakistan remains actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to help defuse tensions.
