6.3 magnitude earthquake jolts Islamabad, parts of Punjab and KP

Islamabad (Web Desk): An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 shook Islamabad and parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday.

The tremors were felt in Islamabad and several areas of Punjab KP and AJK.

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre under the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that the tremors struck at 9:13pm, registering a depth of 190 kilometres and a magnitude of 6.3.

Seismologists traced the epicentre to the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, with the quake’s impact felt across northern Pakistan, including major areas such as Islamabad, Chitral, Peshawar, Swat, and Shangla.

The incident caused widespread alarm, with residents recounting moments of shaking and uncertainty as the tremors rippled through homes and streets.
