New Delhi (Web Desk): A recent infographic report has brought to light the stark caste-based disparities embedded within India's power structures, revealing that Brahmins — who make up only 3–5% of the population — continue to wield influence far beyond their numbers in political, judicial, and bureaucratic institutions.
Despite being a numerical minority, Brahmins occupy a significant share of top-tier positions, including the presidency, prime ministership, senior judiciary roles, top bureaucratic posts, and key diplomatic assignments. Experts describe this concentration of power as “Brahminocracy” — a term that characterizes a governance model dominated by a specific caste group.
Critics argue that this phenomenon undermines the principles of democratic equality and perpetuates a legacy of structural caste privilege. They say it limits upward mobility and representation for marginalized communities, including Dalits, Adivasis, and other backward classes.
Social justice advocates are urging the Indian government to implement institutional reforms that ensure fairer power distribution and promote genuine inclusion across caste lines. They argue that for India’s democracy to be truly representative, it must rise above caste hierarchies and offer equal opportunities to all citizens.
