Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved wide-ranging reforms in the energy sector and directed authorities to formulate a comprehensive strategy aimed at maintaining stability in electricity tariffs.
Chairing a high-level meeting on energy sector reforms, the prime minister emphasized that providing maximum relief to domestic consumers remains the government’s top priority, while the interests of the industrial sector would also be fully protected.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers, and senior officials concerned with finance, economic affairs, information, and energy.
Participants discussed various proposals related to electricity consumption, consumer facilitation, and industrial energy requirements.
PM Shehbaz instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted power supply to industries in order to boost exports and create employment opportunities.
He also stressed the need to expand digital payment systems for electricity bills so consumers can avoid long queues and unnecessary visits to offices.
Highlighting the importance of modernization, the premier called for upgrading the power transmission system and directed authorities to take immediate steps to reduce line losses. He said the use of modern technology is essential to improve transparency and efficiency in the energy sector.
Taking a strict stance on electricity theft, the prime minister stated that no leniency would be shown in the ongoing crackdown and that the burden of power theft would not be shifted onto ordinary consumers.
He also ordered priority development of renewable energy projects to ensure affordable and environmentally friendly electricity generation.
Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said all reforms in the energy sector must remain focused on public welfare and economic stability, warning that negligence or delays in this regard would not be tolerated.
