Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic discussion on Monday with Haitham bin Tariq to exchange views on the worsening regional climate triggered by Israel’s strike on Iran and the subsequent flare-up that has put broader peace and stability at risk.
During the conversation, the prime minister pointed out that the latest surge in tensions came at a particularly delicate juncture, when Oman was facilitating diplomatic engagement aimed at easing strains between Washington and Tehran.
He remarked that the outbreak of hostilities had not only interrupted those sensitive diplomatic endeavors but had also weakened ongoing efforts designed to encourage dialogue and defuse confrontation across the region.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, PM Shehbaz stressed the necessity of preventing any further intensification and underscored the importance of reopening space for constructive diplomacy.
He maintained that renewed negotiations and sustained engagement were essential to steer the region away from deeper instability.
The prime minister conveyed Pakistan’s sincere gratitude for Oman’s mediatory contributions and praised Sultan Haitham’s leadership in advancing dialogue and fostering trust among regional and global actors.
He recognized Muscat’s steady and balanced diplomatic approach as a vital element in maintaining equilibrium during turbulent times.
The two leaders agreed to stay in close contact and to continue supporting initiatives focused on de-escalation, with the shared aim of restoring calm and ensuring enduring stability in the region.
