California (Web Desk): Meta has rolled out a new set of restrictions and safety features aimed at protecting younger users across its social media platforms worldwide.
In a statement, the company announced that stricter safeguards are being applied to teen accounts for users aged 13 and above on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.
The measures are designed to provide a safer online experience and limit exposure to potentially harmful or inappropriate content.
Starting June 2, enhanced content controls and safety settings are being implemented globally for teen accounts across Meta’s platforms. The initiative was first introduced in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada in October 2025 before being expanded worldwide.
Under the updated policy, teen users will no longer be able to view or follow accounts that frequently share inappropriate or sensitive content. Meta said such accounts will also be excluded from recommendations and search results for users under the age of 18.
The company further revealed that it will work with safety firm Allie to develop and test new features aimed at strengthening protections for younger users.
Meta had previously introduced similar safeguards on Instagram, including restrictions on searches related to topics such as alcohol consumption and other age-sensitive content.
The platform also launched a “Limited Content” setting to further reduce exposure to unsuitable material.
In addition, parents will have greater control over their children's online experience. The new tools will allow them to restrict access to certain content and comments, including limiting the ability of teens to view comments on their own posts.
According to Meta, the latest measures are part of its broader effort to create a safer digital environment for young users and enhance parental oversight across its platforms.
