Ottawa (Web Desk): Tech billionaire Elon Musk's aerospace company, SpaceX, is reportedly working on an artificial intelligence-powered smartphone, although the claim has been disputed by Musk himself.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, a prototype of the AI-based device has already been presented to investors and shareholders. The report describes the device as slim in design and similar in appearance to a conventional smartphone.
Unlike traditional smartphones, the reported device is expected to place AI capabilities at the centre of the user experience while retaining standard smartphone functions.
The report further claimed that SpaceX is developing the AI hardware with the goal of bringing advanced AI technology to consumers and eventually competing with major smartphone makers, including Apple.
The prototype is said to be in the early stages of development and, unlike conventional smartphones, will reportedly run on a custom-built operating system instead of Android or iOS.
According to the report, the device will feature a Qualcomm processor and will be powered by AI models developed by xAI, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company.
The prototype is also believed to reflect Musk's long-discussed vision of an "everything app" or "super app," integrating multiple digital services into a single platform.
If launched, the device could offer messaging, digital payments, online shopping, ride-hailing, social networking and other everyday services through one unified interface.
However, the authenticity of the report remains uncertain, as Elon Musk has denied the claims regarding the development of such a device.
If the reports eventually prove to be accurate, SpaceX would join a growing list of technology companies investing in AI-focused consumer devices. Companies including OpenAI and Apple are also reportedly exploring AI-powered hardware as the next frontier in personal technology.
