Lahore (Web Desk): Just days after the devastating roof collapse at a tuition centre in Kahna, Lahore has witnessed another tragic incident involving a school building, once again raising alarm over safety measures at educational institutions.
An eight-year-old boy lost his life, while four construction workers suffered serious injuries after the roof of a private school gave way during a summer camp in Lahore's Baghbanpura locality.
According to rescue officials, emergency teams rushed to the site immediately after receiving information about the collapse.
Rescue personnel searched through the debris, pulled out those trapped beneath the rubble and shifted them to a nearby hospital.
Doctors later confirmed the death of 8-year-old Abu Bakr, while the injured workers continue to receive treatment.
Authorities said the accident took place as expansion work was being carried out on the school building. At the same time, a summer camp was underway, with a large number of children present inside the premises.
Fortunately, all other children attending the camp escaped safely, preventing what could have turned into a much larger tragedy.
The incident has once again brought construction safety practices under scrutiny, particularly the decision to continue building work at educational institutions while children are on campus.
Taking notice of the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the relevant authorities to submit a detailed report.
Meanwhile, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat ordered an official inquiry to determine the cause of the collapse and identify any negligence.
The latest tragedy comes only two days after the fatal roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore's Kahna area, where 14 children lost their lives.
On Wednesday, hundreds of grieving relatives, friends and residents gathered at a local mosque to offer funeral prayers for the victims before the children, most of whom were between four and 12 years old, were laid to rest in a nearby graveyard.
