California (Web Desk): Google has rolled out a significant update for Gmail users, introducing a feature that allows them to change their primary “@gmail.com” email address within an existing account.

The new option enables users to switch to a different Gmail address without creating a new account, while ensuring that all existing data—including emails, photos, and messages—remains fully intact.

Google has begun releasing the feature in phases, meaning users who are eligible will see the option appear gradually, with no disruption to their stored information during the process.

In addition, users will be able to sign in to Google’s various services—such as Gmail, YouTube, Maps, and Drive—using either their new or previous email address. Google has clarified that once a new Gmail address is created, users will not be able to generate another one for the next 12 months. However, the old email address can be reused at any time if needed.

While the company has assured users that their data will remain protected, it has advised them to back up important information before changing their email address, as some app settings may reset during the transition.

Users who want to check whether the feature is available to them can do so by visiting their Google Account settings and navigating to the “Personal Information” section.
