Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor on Friday rejected the remarks made by Senator Hasil Bizenjo after the failure of no confidence-resolution against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.
In a tweet, the military's media spokesperson said, “Remarks by Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo implicating head of national premier institution are unfounded. The tendency to bring entire democratic process into disrepute for petty political gains doesn’t serve democracy.”
The remarks by the DG ISPR follow Bizenjo’s comments after the secret ballot in the Senate on Thursday.
Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwalla on survived motions of no-confidence.
The no-confidence motion tabled by the opposition against Sadiq Sanjrani failed to receive the 53 votes required for his removal. The resolution received 50 votes whereas five votes were rejected, while 45 were cast in favour of Sanjrani.
Later, Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwalla also survived the no-confidence motion tabled by the government.
Mandviwalla received 32 votes whereas only 7 votes were cast against him.
On July 9, the opposition had submitted a resolution of no-confidence against Sanjrani to the Senate Secretariat with the signatures of 44 senators.
The opposition parties had nominated Hasil Bizenjo as their candidate for the post of chairman Senate.
