Islamabad (Web Desk): World Autism Awareness Day is being observed today (Thursday) across the globe, including Pakistan, to promote acceptance, understanding, acceptance, and inclusion of individuals on the autism spectrum.
This year’s theme, “Autism and Humanity: Every Life Has Value,” highlights the importance of recognizing the worth and potential of every person.
In separate statements, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed their commitment to supporting children with special needs.
They underscored that the government is determined to utilize all available resources to help these children realize their abilities and contribute meaningfully to society.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) officially recognized April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day in 2007. The UNGA resolution (A/RES/62/139), adopted that year emphasized the importance of increasing public understanding of autism and the challenges faced by those affected. It highlighted that children with disabilities deserve to live fulfilling lives in environments that respect their dignity, encourage independence, and support their active engagement within their communities.
The resolution further stressed that these children should have full access to all human rights and fundamental freedoms on the same footing as other children, ensuring equality and inclusion in every sphere of life.
This observance aims to promote awareness, foster acceptance, and inspire collective efforts to create societies where children with autism can flourish and participate fully.
