Tianjin (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s enduring dedication to the foundational principles of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), expressing his country’s strong alignment with the spirit and goals that the organization upholds.
Addressing the 25th session of the SCO Council of Heads of State in Tianjin, China, the Prime Minister underscored Pakistan's belief in the value of regional collaboration and integration, describing the SCO as a vital platform reflecting this commitment.
During his remarks, the Prime Minister emphasized that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a key component of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), stands as a powerful illustration of the SCO’s overarching objective of enhancing regional connectivity and economic unity.
He reiterated Pakistan’s respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all SCO nations, as well as its adherence to international and bilateral agreements, asserting that mutual observance of these principles is essential for constructive cooperation within the forum.
PM Shehbaz also brought attention to the critical importance of equitable water access among SCO member states, noting that honoring existing water treaties would not only promote harmony but also support the organization in achieving its broader mission.
He stressed that regional peace is best achieved through diplomacy, dialogue, and multilateral engagement—values Pakistan holds as central to its foreign policy.
Reiterating Islamabad’s intention to maintain peaceful and stable relations with all neighboring countries, he called for the initiation of comprehensive and structured dialogue to address long-standing regional conflicts, particularly in South Asia.
Touching upon security concerns, the prime minister categorically condemned terrorism in every form, including state-sponsored violence.
PM Shehbaz referenced the tragic Jaffar Express hostage crisis and multiple other attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, alleging involvement of foreign actors in orchestrating these acts.
He praised Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, asserting that the country has consistently stood on the frontline in this global struggle.
In the context of Afghanistan, PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s stance that peace and stability in the war-torn country are vital not only for Pakistan’s own security but also for the broader region.
He expressed confidence that ongoing trilateral engagements between Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan would contribute positively to future outcomes.
The prime minister also reflected on the severe flooding that had recently impacted Pakistan, acknowledging the significant loss and hardship it caused.
He extended gratitude to the international community—especially China—for their solidarity and support during these difficult times.
PM Shehbaz also highlighted the notable economic recovery achieved by Pakistan over the last year and a half, suggesting this progress as a sign of resilience and improved governance.
Concluding his address, Sharif turned attention to the crisis in Gaza, condemning the brutal violence being carried out by Israeli forces.
He called for an immediate end to the suffering and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in accordance with United Nations (UN) resolutions.
