Islamabad (Web Desk): The caretaker government on Thursday increased prices of petrol by Rs14.91 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs18.44 per litre respectively.
The Ministry of Finance announced the new prices late in the night after clearance from the caretaker prime minister.
In its notification posted on X, the finance ministry said the increase in fuel prices was due to the “increasing trend of petroleum prices in the international market and exchange rate variations”.
After the increase, the new prices of petrol has jumped to Rs305.36 per litre, while prices of diesel has been hiked by Rs311.84 per litre.
As per the sources, under the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) deal, the government in a major policy decision, increased the levy on petrol by Rs5 per litre, from Rs55 to Rs60 per litre, and Rs50 per liter on diesel.
The fresh hike comes just after a fortnight when the caretaker government on August 15, announced increase in petrol and HSD prices by Rs17.50 and Rs20 per litre respectively.
