Jan Mohammad retakes charge as IGP after SC rejects govt's plea

Islamabad (Staff Report): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Jan Muhammad on Thursday again assumed charge of his post.

Muhammad, who was in Malaysia for a training course came back to Islamabad today night and resumed his duties.

On Oct 28, the inspector general of capital police was removed from the post for allegedly not receiving the phone call of a federal minister.

After the Supreme Court suspended his transfer notification, the Ministry of Interior wrote to the IGP and directed him to assume the charge.

Earlier the today, the apex court rejected a plea filed by the government to appoint a new IGP in the capital.

However, the court suggested the government to appoint a top cop in the capital on an interim basis in light of the current sensitive law and order situation.

DIG Security Waqar Chohan had been looking after the office of the IGP Islamabad in his absence.
