Washington (Web Desk): In a pivotal move aimed at reshaping post-war economic ties, Ukraine and the United States have finalized an agreement focused on strategic minerals and investment collaboration.
The deal grants the US privileged access to key Ukrainian mineral ventures and sets up a joint fund to support Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts following the devastation caused by ongoing conflict.
The agreement, signed in Washington after protracted negotiations, received strong backing from US President Donald Trump, who has consistently called for measurable returns on American assistance to Kyiv.
According to Ukrainian authorities, the pact is not only crucial for economic recovery but also for renewing diplomatic warmth with the Trump administration, a relationship that had shown signs of strain since Trump’s return to the White House in January.
Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent formalized the agreement at a ceremonial signing in Washington. “The agreement clearly signals the Trump Administration's commitment to a free, sovereign, prosperous Ukraine,” the Treasury Department stated on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Svyrydenko indicated that the United States would contribute capital to the newly established reconstruction fund and might also extend additional forms of assistance, including advanced air defense systems.
However, US officials have yet to confirm any military aid linked directly to the deal.
Despite a more transactional tone, the US remains Ukraine’s most substantial military partner, having delivered more than $72 billion in support since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, based on figures from the Kiel Institute.
Ahead of the signing, Trump emphasized the need for tangible benefits tied to US aid, pointing to Ukraine’s rich deposits of rare earth minerals as critical to American strategic interests.
The US Treasury echoed this sentiment in its public release, asserting that the partnership “acknowledges the significant financial and material support that the people of the United States have provided to the defence of Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion.”
