COVID-19: NCOC bans processions on Youm-e-Ali (RA)

Islamabad (Web Desk): National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on Saturday imposed ban on all sort of processions on the occasion of Youm-e-Ali (RA).

According the details, the decision was taken in an NCOC meeting Chaired by Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar in Islamabad.

However, Majalis have been permitted under strict COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The decision was taken keeping in view the risk factor due to the ongoing surge in Covid-19 especially in major urban centers.

The forum emphasized the need to engage the religious scholars and community leaders at provincial and district levels for implementation of these decisions.

Meanwhile, Pakistan on Saturday announced a major cut in incoming international flights as the third wave of the novel coronavirus intensifies in the country.

According to an advisory issued by the NCOC, international air travel from May 4 to May 20, as inbound air traffic, will remain at 20 percent amid high virus prevalence around the globe.

On Saturday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 825,519 on Saturday after 4,696 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 17,957 with 146 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
