Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled a Rs20 billion Ramadan Relief Package in Islamabad.
Addressing the launching ceremony, he emphasized that the initiative would provide Rs5,000 in cash transfers to four million eligible families through digital wallets, ensuring a transparent and efficient distribution process.
PM Shehbaz said that the relief effort will extend across all four provinces, as well as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, with constant oversight and monitoring to guarantee its effectiveness.
The prime minister said that the package aims to spare people the burden of waiting in long lines at Utility Stores.
PM Shehbaz also expressed his appreciation for the tireless efforts of all the relevant institutions and organizations, including ministries, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Nadra, the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), and technology firms. He acknowledged their dedication in working around the clock to create an innovative digital system.
As part of the broader reforms, he announced plans for the eventual privatization of the Utility Stores Corporation.
PM Shehbaz also condemned the recent terrorist attack at Darul Uloom Haqqania, an incident that has deeply saddened the entire nation.
He expressed his trust in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to bring the perpetrators to justice and deliver exemplary punishment.
PM Shehbaz reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country.
On the occasion, Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain stated that the cash transfers would be completed within ten days.
He also announced the establishment of sugar stalls at the tehsil level during Ramadan, where sugar would be available at a reduced price of Rs130 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, the utility stores will offer essential commodities to the public at a 15% discount throughout the holy month.
