Lahore (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was arrested from outside his Zahoor Elahi residence in Lahore on Thursday.
The former Punjab chief minister was taken into custody by the anti-corruption personnel after pulling over his car near Zahoor Elahi's residence in Lahore’s Gulberg area.
Elahi's spokesperson Iqbal Chaudhry confirmed the development.
The spokesperson alleged that authorities had also “misbehaved” with women accompanying the PTI president.
On May 26, a district court in Lahore had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Elahi in a case of embezzlement of development funds.
Meanwhile, Punjab Caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir also confirmed former Punjab CM's arrest.
The minister said that the PTI president was in his vehicle and "trying to flee" when he was arrested from Zahoor Elahi Road.
Slamming the Punjab caretaker government, the PTI in a tweet has termed Elahi's arrest as abduction.
Shameful how the regime doesn’t stop their fascism. The inflation has skyrocketed to 38%, and their response is arresting former CM Punjab Parvez Elahi. Absolutely ridiculous! pic.twitter.com/epfQxGm47e
