One police personnel martyred, 6 injured in Lakki Marwat suicide attack

Peshawar (Web Desk): At least one police personnel was martyred and six others were injured on Monday when a suicide attacker struck a police mobile in f Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district.

Police said the bomber was standing along the roadside with an accomplice in the Bakhmal Ahmadzai area and triggered the explosion as the patrol vehicle passed by.

Soon after the blast, police teams and rescue workers reached the spot and moved the body of the fallen officer and the injured personnel to the hospital.

According to officials, the bomber’s partner escaped after the attack, and a search operation was launched to track him down.

Speaking to the media, district police officer (DPO) of Lakki Marwat said that the two militants had arrived on a motorcycle.

He added that police had already identified their movement and forced them onto a dirt route, where the suspects opened fire on the policemen.

During the exchange, one of the attackers detonated his explosive vest, the DPO said, noting that the police risked their lives to prevent destruction in the area.

Taking notice of the incident, KPM Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the attack, asserting that the bravery and sacrifices of the police will never be forgotten.

He assured that the provincial government fully supports law enforcement and emphasized that maintaining security and order remains its highest priority.

“Such cowardly acts would not weaken the resolve or morale of the police,” the KP CM said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of police personnel in terrorist attack targeting a mobile police vehicle in Lakki Marwat.

In a message released by the PM House, he offered prayers for the souls of those who lost their lives and extended his heartfelt sympathies to the grieving families, asking that they be granted strength and patience during this tragic time.

He directed the relevant authorities to provide immediate medical care to the wounded and prayed for their quick recovery.

The prime minister reiterated the government’s firm commitment to rooting out terrorism and protecting innocent citizens, emphasizing that the state will continue to thwart the malicious schemes of those who threaten public safety.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday sharply criticized the suicide blast that struck near a police vehicle in Lakki Marwat, voicing heartfelt grief over the police officer who lost his life in the attack.

Naqvi honoured the martyred officer for fulfilling his duty with courage and extended sincere sympathies to the family mourning his loss. He also prayed for the quick recovery of the personnel who were wounded.

Calling the assault a “cowardly move by Kharijite elements,” the minister said such incidents cannot shake the country’s determination to confront terrorism. He reaffirmed that Pakistan remains unwavering in its mission to stamp out militancy.

He further lauded the KP Police, saying the force has offered “extraordinary and incomparable sacrifices” in the fight against terror. Naqvi stressed that these sacrifices will always be remembered and will not be allowed to go in vain.
